COREPER II (Committee of Permanent Representatives of EU Member States) to consider visa waiver for Ukraine on April 26, according to information published on official site of EU executive bodies.
“REGULATION OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL amending Regulation (EC) No 539/2001 listing the third countries whose nationals must be in possession of visas when crossing the external borders and those whose nationals are exempt from that requirement (Ukraine)” was put into list of related documents of COREPER meeting.
COREPER decision should be followed by adoption of the Council of EU.
According to the timeline of visa liberalisation for Ukraine, Council of EU is to adopt legislation on Ukraine on May 11, with signing the document on May, 15 and publishing in the official EU Journal on May, 22. Visa waiver is supposed to come into force on June, 11.
On April 6, European Parliament has voted for adding Ukraine to the list of countries whose nationals should not get visas for short-term travels and stay in Europe with 521 votes pro and 75 votes contra.
