Survey reveals low level of mobility among residents of Ukrainian cities

From 64% to 94% of residents of 24 Ukrainian big cities and towns had never travelled to Europe in last 5 years, reveal results of Ukrainian Municipal Survey, conducted between January, 20 and February, 12 by Rating Group and International Republican Institute in 22 regional centers, as well as Mariupol and Severodonetsk, which have become administrative centers of regions, which are apartly occupied by Russia.

Residents of central and eastern regions travelled to Europe the most rarely – 5% in Severodonetsk and Sumy, 6% in Zaporizhia and Kropyvnytsky, 9% in Mariupol. Most frequent travelling to Europe is claimed in western regions and Kyiv – 35% in Uzhgorod, 33% in Ivano-Frankivsk, 28% in Lviv, 27% – in Ternopil and Kyiv.

From 69% to 97% of respondents in every city (town) did not travel abroad to resorts in last five years. The smallest shares of people travelling to resorts belong to Severodonetsk (2%), Kherson and Mariupol (5%), Mykolayiv and Kropyvnytsky (6%), while residents of Lviv (16%), Chernihiv (17%), Chernivtsi (23%), Rivne (22%) and Kyiv (31%) visited resorts more frequently.

From 73% of residents of Kyiv to 98% of residents of Uzhgorod did not visit countries of Commonwealth of Independent States (9 Post-Soviet States) in last five years.

From 20% to 56% of respondents did not leave their region in last 5 years.

The lowest level of interregional mobility fixed for residents of Severodonetsk, Sumy (44%), Kherson (51%), Uzhgorod (51%) and Mykolayiv (52%), while residents of Khmelnytsky (80%), Rivne (79%), Ternopil (77%), Kyiv (74%) and Ivano-Frankivsk (71%) travelled to other regions more frequently.
