The field of border management has traditionally been perceived as a restrited security policy area with no room for democratic public participation. In 2019, the Government of Ukraine approved the Strategy for Integrated Border Management until 2025 which anticipates horizontal cooperation between all stakeholders within the border management processes.
However, the involvement of civil society into the border management remains a new and unresolved issue. Local communities do not know how they can get involved in addressing border issues.
The project aims to establish a dialogue between border management entities and representatives of border communities (Volyn, Lviv, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Odessa regions) and to initiate the exchange of professional information on border issues.
The project envisages a series of online meetings and discussions with representatives of central government and local communities, the results and conclusions of which will be published in the public domain, as well as a number of media materials on the topic of the border management.
