European Parliament to vote revised suspension mechanism in mid-February – Jozwiak

Translation of text of revised suspension mechanism will be finished in the early February. It means that European Parliament may vote it again on the plenary sitting on February 13-16, claimed Rikard Jozwiak, correspondent of RFE in Brussels, tracking the procedure of visa liberalisation for Ukraine and Georgia.

“Translation of visa suspension mechanism text set to be done in early February so EP should vote on it on 13-16 February and the Council (of the EU) a bit later”, – he wrote in Twitter.

He suggested that Georgia would get visa waiver in March while Ukraine – in May.

The issue of granting visa-free regime to Georgia was included to agenda of EP plenary sitting on the 2nd of February.

European Parliament has voted the revised suspension mechanism on 15th of December, 2016, but after this text of the project have to be translated to all official languages of the EU, voted again in the EP and then confirmed by the Council of the EU.

Granting of visa-free regime to Ukraine and Georgia was tied to adoption of revised suspension mechanism by decision of the COREPER.
