Ukraine is on the home stretch of the visa liberalization process with the EU countries, which should result in abolition of visas for the citizens of Ukraine. However, there is a risk that Ukrainians will be unable to fully enjoy all potential privileges due to the high price of air travel from Ukraine. An important step in resolving this issue is a prompt signature of Common Aviation Area Agreement between the EU and Ukraine.
The project of Europe Without Barriers NGO is aimed at finding the main obstacles in signing such Agreement and to prepare relevant recommendations for the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine to speed up signing and implementation of the Agreement.
Basing on results of research EWB prepared an analytical report “Prospects of Ukraine’s Accession to the European Common Aviation Area” in Ukrainian and English languages and organized round table “Will Ukraine join European Common Aviation Area?” (event report in Ukrainian) with participation of Ukrainian experts and officials. During project experts of EWB published a number articles on ECAA agreement in influential Ukrainian media (Yevropeyska pravda, Dzerkalo Tyzhnya). Round table was widely highlighted in printed and online media.
After the round table EWB initiated creation of a Working Group on signing and implementing the CAA Agreement with the EU. Group was supported by Ministry of infrastructure and held its first sitting in November, 2016.
